Detailed information
The X-comm USB HID to RS232 adapter offers significant advantages over simple USB serial adapters. The X-comm adapter eliminates the need for a virtual COM port by using USB HID data supported by the PI Engineering SDK and programming software (both free downloads). By eliminating the COM port, communication with the serial device is simplified, allowing multiple applications to control the serial device while also having access to the data reported by the device.
The X-comm USB HID Adapter can also be used as a standalone control device with up to 12 buttons to send stored serial messages. The X-comm Adapter can be powered by any standard 5V USB power supply and the six 3.5mm (stereo) jack ports can be split to support a total of 12 switches. The X-keys Basic Programming Utility allows the user to send commands to the serial device and write them to the X-comm Adapter's onboard memory.
Using the PI Engineering SDK, the X-comm adapter accepts USB HID commands from any application on the PC, converts them into serial messages and sends them to the connected device. The serial messages received from the device are converted into USB HID data and are easily accessible by any application on the PC.
The X-comm adapter supports all standard RS232 serial data structures. Knowledge of the serial device data structure is required.
